Urticaria (Hives): Prevention Tips & Essential Precautions

Urticaria , commonly known as hives , is a common skin condition. It is caused by various factors that lead to temporary inflammatory congestion and excessive fluid exudation in the blood vessels of the skin and mucous membranes, resulting in localized edematous lesions.

  I. Preventive Measures

What are the symptoms of urticaria (hives) ?

Identify and eliminate any triggers for the illness. Avoid inhaling pollen, animal dander, feathers, dust, and castor bean powder; avoid contact with allergens; and avoid or abstain from certain medications or foods that trigger allergies. If relapses are caused by hot or cold stimuli, do not excessively avoid them; instead, gradually expose them to them, increasing the duration of exposure to hot or cold stimuli to allow for adaptation. Actively treat any underlying diseases, such as acute tonsillitis, cholecystitis, viral hepatitis, appendicitis, and intestinal ascariasis, to eliminate the source of infection.

  II. Precautions

  1. Maintain a regular lifestyle, strengthen physical exercise, improve physical fitness, and adapt to changes in temperature.

  2. Avoid scratching the affected area vigorously, do not wash with hot water, and do not overuse strong topical medications.

  3. Actively seek out and eliminate the causes of the disease, treat chronic lesions, regulate gastrointestinal function, and expel intestinal parasites.

  4. Avoid animal protein foods and seafood, as well as spicy and stimulating foods and alcohol. Maintain a light diet and eat more fresh vegetables and fruits.
