Traditional Chinese medicine states, "Supplement what is deficient, drain what is excessive, warm what is cold, and cool what is hot." Different constitutions require different maintenance methods. Human constitutions can be specifically divided into four categories: deficient, excessive, cold, and hot. These four categories are further subdivided into two main types: deficient-cold and excessive-hot. Fruits can be categorized into five properties: cold, cool, warm, hot, and neutral. So, how should people with different constitutions choose fruits with different properties?

Cooling fruits relieve dryness and heat

Cool summer fruits: cantaloupe, watermelon, pear, banana, kiwi, mango, persimmon, water chestnut, honeydew melon, pomelo, etc.

Suitable for: People with a constitution prone to excessive heat

Summer fruits are mostly cooling in nature, such as pears, apples, and various melons. Generally speaking, people with a "hot" constitution have a vigorous metabolism in summer, with the sympathetic nervous system being dominant. They sweat a lot, often have a flushed face, dry mouth and throat, are easily irritable, and are prone to constipation. They especially like to eat cold things in summer. Therefore, people with a "hot" constitution can eat more cooling fruits appropriately.

Warm fruits replenish deficiency and cold

Warm summer fruits: lychee, peach, longan, guava, cherry, coconut, durian, apricot, etc.

Suitable for: People with cold constitution

While many fruits are considered cooling in summer, warming fruits like lychee, longan, and apricot are also quite popular. This is especially true for people with a cold constitution, who often suffer from qi and spleen deficiency, low basal metabolic rate, and low internal heat production, resulting in cold extremities even in summer. These individuals tend to have paler complexions, experience less thirst, and dislike contact with cold things, including air-conditioned rooms. Therefore, consuming more warming fruits is undoubtedly an excellent way to replenish their body's cold constitution.

However, most people are prone to getting a sore throat or other heat-related symptoms from eating too many warm fruits on hot days. For example, lychees contain blood sugar-lowering components, and eating too many can cause hypoglycemia. People with a "hot" constitution, who are already energetic, have difficulty falling asleep at night, and have a higher metabolic rate, should especially avoid warm fruits. Additionally, children who are currently feverish or have inflammation in any organ should also avoid consuming them.

Sweet and neutral fruits are suitable for all body types

Sweet and neutral fruits include: grapes, papayas, olives, plums, apricots, loquats, hawthorns, apples, etc.

This fruit is suitable for people of all constitutions.
